Heaven

The standard in which the appearance of an ideal Shelties is described starts as follows:
"Little, long-haired work dog of great beauty, free of awkwardness and rudeness. With a charming expression contour beautifully more formedly bandages himself head to the ideal phenotype symmetrical so that no part looks disproportionate."

Look close at the dogs. You will notice all proportions are correct although the Sheltie is a rather small breed of dog. At most small breedings of dogs the low size is paid for with the loss of the proportions. Head too big, too short legsy etc.. But not the Sheltie. Balance is one of the outstanding aims of the breed. A healthy, robust physique is also accompanied by that. You will enjoy this wonderful race the beauty.

Fur colors

Four fur colours are in the standard authorized:

The fur colours of a Sheltie

  • Sable - from a warm deep brown sable up to mahogany red.
  • Tricolour - a threechromatic dog in the colours in white, black and brown.
  • Blue Merle - a tricolour with marbled cold grey instead of black. It is a side-effect that blue eyes can appear at one or two.
  • Bicolor - two colour variants are possible: Black/white and Blue Merle/white (also called Biblue).

Fur composition and care

Sky removes her winter cloak

The Sheltie has a double fur. Long, straight and firm top hair. The top hair hardly loses a Sheltie. Fleecy, thick and short underwool. The Sheltie changes the underwool approximately two times in the year. It is then cancelled in thick flakes. It looks that way when Sky decides to take off your "winter coat". The fur change goes of fin within a few days. Within these days you must brush more frequently and more strongly. For this little fur care is only planned after that.

The fur care is rather simple. Every two weeks by brushes suffices completely. Not fairly often. During the changes of coat a little once in a while.

Being able to to remove the hair from the carpet and from the couch easily. I know some dog owners with short-haired races. In comparison with this our four dogs lose less hair together which still has removed to this for themselves better. It is really not easy to remove short hair from clothes or of a couch.

I love, to prowl through the hair of my Shelties, this feels like a warm, soft and live "fur coat". Therefore I would like to recect the prejudice: Long-haired dogs make more dirt "and" are care intensive considerably.
